Administration of Learning for Life is done by Angie and Irma in the UK and Netherlands. In Lundazi, LfL is kindly assisted by Thandizani for the disbursement of school fees to the children.
Angie and Irma take responsibility for the overall administration and financial management. Angie is doing the overall administration: update phonecalls and emails with Thandizani; collection of schoolreports and pictures; organisation of distribution of schoolfees each term; checking of school reports. Irma updates the bookkeeping system and the website.
The Zambian School system is based on the UK school system. There are 3 terms in one schoolyear (January through December). Learning for Life aims to put the children through school from Primary until Secondary Education. A contract is signed between parents/guardians and Learning for Life in which both commit to support the children in the best way to go to school.
Financial support is given per term. After each term the school reports are checked to see how the children are progressing. If the children are doing well we write the parent/guardians and tell them they have done well and should continue to work hard. If there are subjects where the children need to work harder or if they need more support we write the parents/guardians and encourage them to talk to the children so they stay focussed on learning. In the contract between the parents/guardians and Learning for Life it states that if a child does not work hard and has consistently poor reports we will transfer the sponsorship to another child.
The administration in the UK/Netherlands is voluntary work. Learning for Life administration has and will continue to visit Lundazi every year to see -locally- how the project is running (this is at minimum cost for LfL).
