Annual visit to Lundazi The annual visit to Lundazi has taken place. The children attended a workshop organized by Angie in which we provided them extra lessons to strengthen their English and Math. And of course to have play time, do games and make drawings. A full report will be posted shortly.
What happened in 2013?
Representing LfL in Malawi 2 of our children, Shadrick and Prisca, who live in a Kapiri village (not far from the border with Malawi) were chosen by the village elders to represent LfL at the Malawi independence day celebrations. This presented both children with an amazing opportunity, not only to attend such a formal celebration, but to travel to another country and although in kilometres it is not far, it is somewhere the children would never get the opportunity to go if they were not part of the LfL family. A trip like that comes with responsibilities, which included reciting a poem which they did very well. Of course they got to visit the lake in Malawi.
Donations & Fundraising Weddings……... Michel & Margot and Marianne & Ollie both got married this summer. Instead of receiving gifts they decided to ask their friends and family to donate money. AND THEY DID! We can not express enough how thankful we are to all. We send our very best wishes to both couple from all the LfL family.
This year has also seen donations from The Hayden and McCarrick families, Richard Francis and Robert Guillet - a big thank you for your support.
Fundraising……….. We have also had 2 wonderful fundraising activities. In September Cheryl and Ghassam, sponsors of several of our children, arranged a poker and raffle event at a casino in the UK. It was an amazing success and a huge amount of money was raised. An enormous amount of hard work went into organising and running this event and we are extremely grateful to Cheryl and Ghassam for their ongoing commitment and support of our project.
Brenda (& Michael), sponsors of several of our children, is a regular speaker at events and clubs in the area where she lives. Brenda has donated all the "fees" she gets from these talks to LfL and already has 12 talks planned for 2014. Thank you Brenda and keep on talking!!
The future We outlined our vision for the future and with the amazing donations and fundraising that has taken place this year we will be able to take the first step to turn our vision into a reality in 2014. We want to create a Resource Centre where the children can read and do their homework in a calm and silent surrounding and, if necessary, can be given extra lessons. More info on the ‘LfL resource centre’ once the plans are becoming more concrete, in our next update.
